DesignOps Professional Programme

Design Operations is the discipline of orchestrating people, processes and craft so that design's value scales with the organisation — and designers get to actually design. This programme trains senior designers and leads to build and run that machinery.

Overview

About the programme

Learn to orchestrate people, processes and craft so design scales — team rituals, design systems governance, research ops, capacity planning and design quality metrics. Instruction is delivered through live, instructor-led sessions rather than pre-recorded video, with assessment based on project work and a final portfolio review — not attendance.

Curriculum

What you will learn, stage by stage

Weeks 1–2 · What DesignOps Is (and Isn't)

The discipline of orchestrating people, processes and craft so design scales; DesignOps as a role versus a mindset; producers, design program managers and ResearchOps specialists; diagnosing your organisation's real pain points before prescribing anything.

Weeks 3–4 · How Teams Work Together

Team structure and skills-complete staffing; rituals, critique cadences and communities of practice; human-first hiring, onboarding and transparent career pathways for design roles.

Weeks 5–6 · How Work Gets Done · Standardise

Documenting the end-to-end design process from initiation to delivery; aligning design activities; tool audits and shared toolchains that make collaboration efficient.

Weeks 7–8 · How Work Gets Done · Harmonise & Prioritise

Design system governance at organisational scale; research repositories everyone can use; exposing workflow bottlenecks; capacity planning and objective prioritisation of design work.

Weeks 9–10 · How Work Creates Impact

Defining 'good' and 'done'; choosing and tracking design quality metrics; socialising design's value with success stories; enabling non-designers through playbooks and training so the design team stops being the bottleneck.

Weeks 11–12 · Capstone · Your DesignOps Playbook

An internal-research-driven DesignOps roadmap for a real organisation (yours, or a partner's): pain-point diagnosis, a prioritised operations plan and a measurement model — defended before a panel of design leaders.

What is DesignOps?
Design Operations (DesignOps) is the practice of orchestrating and optimising people, processes and craft so that design's value and impact scale with the organisation — covering how teams work together, how work gets done, and how that work creates measurable impact. The concept was popularised by Nielsen Norman Group's DesignOps research.
Who is this programme for?
Senior designers, design leads, managers and aspiring UX/design program managers — anyone responsible for making a design team work, not just making designs. It is not a beginner course.
Do I need management experience?
No formal title required, but you should have 3+ years in design and real exposure to team workflows. Admission includes a short experience review.
How often do batches start?
Every 15 days, in senior-only cohorts kept deliberately small; the next four dates are listed above.
What roles does this prepare me for?
Design Program Manager, UX Program Manager, Design Producer, ResearchOps Specialist, DesignOps Lead — and it strengthens Head-of-Design candidacy.
What do I leave with?
A jury-defended DesignOps playbook for a real organisation: pain-point diagnosis, a prioritised operations roadmap and a measurement model — plus the verifiable credential.
Can I use my own company as the capstone organisation?
Yes — most participants do, which means the programme fee often pays for itself in operational improvements before graduation.
Does my employer sponsor programmes like this?
Frequently — we issue GST invoices and provide L&D justification material; corporate-sponsored seats are common in this programme.

The only way to know if this is right for you is to sit in on a class.

No pressure, no hard sell — a live 45-minute session where you meet a mentor, see how a critique actually works, and ask every question about the curriculum, the batch, and your own starting point.
